Lilacs are one of my favorite spring flowers. They have a beautiful purple color and fresh, floral scent that smells like the season. Where I grew up in southern California, lilacs grow wild in the nearby countryside. In the springtime, it’s a nice drive to the countryside where freshly picked wild lilac bouquets are sold roadside. The car ride home is filled with fresh lilac fragrance, bringing home the scent of spring.
Assess your spring wardrobe and spring-clean your closet by going through your wardrobe and clearing out winter wear that you can store away for next winter. I like these striped storage bins sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond recommended by Jennifer L. Scott on The Daily Connoisseur. I also like her recent 10-Item Wardrobe piece, giving great advice and inspiration for budget shopping. She inspires me to bring some color and floral print into my spring wardrobe. I love this quality cashmere sweater from J.Crew in spearmint sprig and budget-friendly floral blouse, which both look great with jeans.
Get a sun-kissed glow with this baked blush by Antonym, a blush crème baked in terra cotta pans. It’s smooth and weightless and flattering to all skin tones. Keep makeup minimal for everyday, such as a little blush, lip balm, and mascara. Focus on healthy skin, and make sure you’re exfoliating (one of my favorites being this gentle cleansing cream) for a fresh face for spring.
With warmer weather, take good care of your skin by including a sun hat in your wardrobe. I love this denim bucket hat by J.Crew, which pairs perfectly with casual wear and is conveniently packable.
Lighten up your foods and brighten up your flavors for your spring cuisine. I love the idea of a spring soup, such as this spring minestrone with chicken meatballs from Bon Appétit, for those days with spring showers. Serve with a glass of white wine, and perhaps a warm piece of focaccia.
Freshen up your linens with a linen spray, such as this lovely organic linen spray with soothing lavender and earthy vetiver essential oils by PriyaMeansLove. I personally love spraying my pillow with an essential oil spray before going to bed, which gives a nice aromatherapy affect for bedtime.
Add a classic, timeless silk scarf to your wardrobe. I love how Pippa Middleton styles hers with a classic, casual denim shirt, which illustrates beautifully how a great scarf really elevates simple casual wear. A quality silk scarf is a worthwhile investment piece, but you can certainly find some good deals, such as this one by Roberto Cavalli, made in Italy, recommended by Shannon Ables on The Simply Luxurious Life.
